Continuing the London 2012 legacy, the 2024 London Youth Games Finals Festival at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park was a celebration of sport, culture, and community.

In this Olympic and Paralympic year, the LYG Finals Festival was the culmination of over fifty qualifying events in more than thirty sports.

LYG Chair Prof. Geoff Thompson MBE FRSA DL QP JM emphasized the holistic benefits of the Games stating “The London Youth Games Finals Festival in this Olympic and Paralympic year provided a distinct opportunity for families, friends, coaches, officials, volunteers, and organizations to work together and be part of something special in the lives of young people and communities. The Jubilee Trophy is a reflection of a year-round exposure of sport for development and peace. The mental, physical, and emotional health and well-being benefits were evident as the teams went through the final rounds.”

The festival site at Copper Box Arena highlighted the diverse and inclusive spirit of the 33 London boroughs, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Team GB Olympian Alice Dearing, as well as Olympian Marcus Adam cheered on the young participants. TeamGB Olympian Alice Dearing remarked: “I had a really fun day at the London Youth Games finals festival. it was really nice to see the participants, to cheer them on and to see so many exciting and budding swimmers. I think it’s a really great event to get more people into swimming and spread the excitement of what swimming and sport can do.”

Thousands of young athletes competed at the Finals Festival, following in the footsteps of Britain’s sporting icons.

David, Southwark basketball player said “It means a lot to a lot of young people to compete in an Olympic venue like this. When we were told we were playing at the Copper Box, I was shocked, I was like “the real Copper Box?!?” This is obviously where the London Lions play and hosted the Olympics back in 2012, so it’s amazing to play where they were.”

Naniyah, Redbridge netball player commented “It’s overwhelming, it’s honestly it’s so amazing to be here playing in the Copper Box. I’ve watched games here and wanted to be someone who’s actually on the court, it’s really exhilarating.”

The London Youth Games formed an Organising committee to support with the organising of the Finals Festival and are grateful to LLDC, Youth Charter, StreetGames, London Marathon Events, GLL, the Greater London Authority, and London Sport who supported us in delivering such an exciting weekend.

London Youth Games Foundation remains dedicated to our belief that ‘Sport is a fundamental right for all’.

LYG CEO Andy Dalby-Welsh celebrated the season’s conclusion: “It was a fantastic end to the season being in such prestigious London 2012 legacy venues. Huge congratulations to Bromley on winning the Jubilee Trophy and a massive well done to Wandsworth for their excellence in the ParaGames, to Hackney for winning the Inner-London Borough trophy and Hillingdon who secured the Most Improved Borough award.”
